I started becoming interested around the mid sixties. At that time I live at my parents home in Enschede in the far eastern part of Holland near the German border. Together with my father I observed the stars and the weather from my parents house. We also did a lot of walking in the nearby countryside so i became aware of all the beaties of Dutch nature. Besides we most of the time spend our holidays in Switserland. Our favourute locations were near Montreux at the Lac du Leman and in the Engadin which is in the southeastern part of Switserland. This is where I became interested in the beautifull mountains!
Most important activities in these early years:My first books on weather and astronomy:
- Weather observations at my parents home
- Reading books on weather and astronomy
- A course on building telescopes at my parents home
- A course on making mirrors for telescopes at the observatory of Hennie Gosemeijer
- De mens in het uitdijende heelal, deel I. Het Zonnestelsel. Tsjomme de Vries (1967)
- De mens in het uitdijende heelal, deel II. Sterren en Melkwegstelsels. Tsjomme de Vries (1967)
