Lawton > Oklohoma > Norman (visit at SPC) > Independance (Kansas)

Today is no chaseday so we planned a visit to Dr. Harold Brooks of SPC at Norman, Oklahoma. We arrive in time at the beautiful new site which is in high contrast to the old building some miles away. In contrary to the old building the new one is big and bright with lots of space in it. In this new bluiding the NWC, the SPC and the local forecast office are put together with the Oklohoma school of meteorology. So everybody working in some way on (severe) weather in and around Oklohoma city is now at one location.

We first meet with Keli Tarp who is in charge with all the communication from SPC to the outside world so with us too. We are free to visit all parts of SPC and that is not said twice... But the meeting with dr. Harold Brooks is our primary goal. We first go to the special conference office where Roy sets up his video-equipment. This is the first of two interviews by Roy and Harold. The second one is performed in the new library. During the intervieuws I take lots of photo's.

Afterwards we have some time to visit other rooms of SPC. First we visit the brand new weatherrooms of the NWS, SPC and the local forecast office which are all near eachother. We walk along Dorothy and go to the garage where all equipment is housed, maintained and setup for future mission. At the end we are lucky to get inside the open place with lots of vehiclkes ready to chase storms. Roy is happy to do some extra interviews.

Back to our own chasecar again... What to do now? We only have 2 full chasedays and in the afternoon of 31 may we have to be back in Oklahoma to return to the Netherlands again... The SPC forecast for severe storms in Nebraska on 29 may is very good so we decide to head north to Kansas where we end up in Independance just across the border. While we are in our hotel we cannot believe SPC is forecasting a HIGH for tomorrow! Waiting for so many hours is hard, very hard...
